Another fatal accident in nearby Interstate 64 work zone

There has been another fatality near a construction zone on Interstate 64 in the area of Hurricane, a town about 30 miles from Charleston, West Virginia.

According to police, this fatal accident happened as traffic was merging in to one lane in order to proceed through a construction site. The woman who died at the scene of the accident had been rear-ended by another motorist, and her vehicle was apparently pushed in to a third car. Police found the woman non-responsible and trapped in her car.

The occupants of the vehicle in front of the victim's car were uninjured, but another person reportedly suffered a broken leg in connection with the accident. It was not clear whether the woman with the broken leg was the driver who caused the chain reaction. Police say they are continuing to investigate and may issue a citation.

This unfortunately marks the third traffic fatality in this construction zone in the last three weeks. Additionally, several injuries have also been reported. Police are stepping up enforcement efforts in and around the construction zone, and the state is taking other extra safety measures as well. Police are particularly concerned about motorists speeding through the work zone, as well as distracted driving.

This story serves as an important reminder that West Virginia motorists have a serious legal obligation to slow down and use extra caution when they are in construction zones. This will be especially important during the warmer months when road work is more common. If a motorist does not take these additional steps to keep their fellow motorists safe and causes an accident as a result, victims may be able to hold that motorist financially accountable.
