Car accident leaves one dead and two injured

For most residents of the Charleston area, driving their automobile is a firmly rooted part of their everyday lives. Because driving and riding in cars is so routine, people usually do not consider the dangers of it. Unfortunately, however, car accidents all throughout the state lead to injuries, deaths and millions of dollars in other damages each year.

A recent West Virginia car accident led to the death of one woman and injuries to two other people. A 63-year-old woman was driving her car on a Monday morning when the 71-year-old driver of a van slammed into her car head-on. Rescuers took both drivers to a nearby hospital, but doctors were unable to save the woman's life.

In addition, a woman who was driving behind the 63-year-old was also involved in the accident and she was taken to the hospital for treatment of her injuries. She and the 71-year-old sustained only minor injuries.

Authorities, including an accident reconstruction team, are still trying to determine the cause of the accident. If the investigation shows that the 71-year-old van driver was negligent or reckless, he could be facing civil liability and even criminal consequences.

No matter the cause, accidents like this one where someone dies are tragic. Almost all car accidents are avoidable and most result from a negligent driver. When this happens, that driver can be liable for a litany of damages including medical expenses, lost wages and pain and suffering.

Nobody gets in their car expecting to get injured. But, when drivers are inattentive and irresponsible, accidents result. Victims of someone else's negligent driving should understand all of their available legal recourse.
